Tri-County Speedway is a dirt oval auto racing facility currently under construction at the intersection of Hwy 31 and Old Hwy 31 in Pollard, Al. The Speedway will produce loud engine noises that can be heard from many miles away. Race events will occur during late evening hours ,up to and beyond midnight, on weekends and occasional weekdays. The Speedway is less than one mile from the many houses that will encounter sounds over 120 decibels. Furthermore, houses occupied by working men and women with children within a five mile radius will be affected by sounds sounds as high as 80 decibels.
The purpose of this petition is to encourage the Board of Commissioners to adopt an ordinance to restrict noise levels at motor races and/or establish an evening curfew for motor racing events.
Simailar curfews, noise ordnance’s, and noise abatement regulations are in existence at race facilities all across the United States. By way of this petition, we the citizens are are holding the elected leaders of Escambia County (AL) accountable for protecting our quality of life and the value of our property.
