World Jewish Congress presents UNEP with petition signed by more than 22,000 condemning Hamas' envir

World Jewish Congress CEO and Executive Vice President Robert Singer on Wednesday presented a petition signed by more than 22,000 people worldwide to Deputy Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Jamal Ahmad, condemning Hamas for causing severe environmental damage to southern Israel. In the meeting, Mr. Singer emphasized to Mr. Ahmad that the destruction of the natural environment in armed conflict is specifically prohibited under international humanitarian law and relevant UN resolutions. Ahmad was extremely receptive to the signatories of the petition and acknowledged that action would be taken since animals have “no passports to protect them.” Thank you to everyone who signed this petition for your continued support. The international community will no longer remain silent as Hamas wages environmental warfare that endangers civilians, wildlife, and ravages the natural beauty and resources of southern Israel.
