I do not want to see any more children afraid to be who they are, or end their lives because of negative reaction to them.

I am a retired educator. The actions of the Erie superintendent and school board perpetuate bullying and lack of tolerance. I was very sad to learn that this censorship was spearheaded by an educator.

We should be treated fairly. It just angers me to see people thinking they are better. This is just like the Civil Rights movement for African Americans and just like now we will look back on it and say, "Why wouldn't people want them to be happy?"

This is ridiculous. It's the twenty-first century. People should have learnt by now how to accept others for who they are. If they aren't going to help put an end to homophobic bullying, they might as well not attempt to put an end to any kind of bullying. Equality is one of the most strongly held beliefs of this country. So why is it that the US is so rampant with inequality and hatred?

If they are going to teach the Bible in this school (and I'm not even going to mention the issues regarding freedom of religion here), they should actually READ ALL OF IT. Indeed, the Bible does call homosexuality an abomination, but that's due to a MISTRANSLATION. It was also only designated for a SPECIFIC society. In reality, it was calling homosexuality UNHEALTHY. However, if we were to remain healthy according to what it states, WE SHOULDN'T WEAR CLOTHING MADE OF MORE THAN ONE TYPE OF FABRIC (among other ridiculous and outdated views of things that it mentions as being unhealthy). Additionally, THE BIBLE STATES THAT NOT FOLLOWING ONE'S NATURAL SEXUALITY IS WRONG. In other words, HOMOSEXUALS SHOULD BE IN HOMOSEXUAL RELATIONSHIPS, NOT HETEROSEXUAL ONES. It also (of course) means that HETEROSEXUALS SHOULD BE IN HETEROSEXUAL RELATIONSHIPS, NOT HOMOSEXUAL ONES.

I find it insane that anyone who believes they are a devout Christian would refuse to pay attention to the CONTEXT of what they read in the Bible. In a Biblical context, homosexuality is NOT a sin.

I am, of course, mentioning this because the school board president mentions the idea that the Bible should be taught in public schools. If I were to go any further into that idea, it would obviously be with regards to freedom of religion. However, I could rant on about that for quite a few more paragraphs emphasizing how we have become a hypocritical Christian nation that continues to cling onto old ideals and refuses to accept religions such as Islam (which preaches peace, love, and acceptance) because of a few extremists or general hatred while stating that we will accept all people.

Nevertheless, this is not a petition against that. As such, I shall stop here simply by noting how idiotic and absurd this is. It's as though those kids on the middle school playground that everyone would avoid for fear of being beat up who would find a reason for striking anyone who isn't like them are now running the schools. And I don't mean as adults. I mean they still seem like they should be in middle school, as they clearly have not been adequately educated if they are going to make such imbecilic decisions. And that marks the end of my rant. I thank anyone who reads this to its end for being so patient as to accomplish such a task. You probably deserve a medal.

I was bullied in high school and felt absolutely hopeless because I couldn't discuss it with my parents teachers or faculty (at a Catholic high school) without admitting to them (and myself) I was gay. Hopelessness leads to drastic measures such as suicide or lashing out at others. For you to ignore the issues that exist among your students is irresponsible.

The blood of the next suicide in your district is on your hands.

It's time, and long over due, that we stop teaching our children to be bigots and haters, and instead teach them acceptance, tolerance, and LOVE...unconditional love, the exact same love that GOD LOVES EACH OF US WITH!!! Only then will bullying and hate stop. Maybe then, and only then, will we be on a REAL course toward world peace!
