The eviction moratorium in Los Angeles and only Los Angeles, allows unauthorized animals to live in places despite the pet policy if related to covid 19. HCIDLA and DCBA has said tenants do not have to provide proof that the animal is related to covid. Therefore, this gives practically anyone the right to get a pet even if their living situation does not allow it. Not only can these animals create as much noise as they please since landlords are also not allowed to evict for noises if related to COVID, people with allergies or fear of animals are left live with these animals with no exceptions. Management and landlords cannot do anything about these animals. Some may be aggressive or not trained to do their business outdoors. This creates a very displeasing and unsanitary environment to live in and is one that we should not be subjected to. That is just from a tenants perspective. Animals can be very destructive and cause thousands of dollars in damage. We are asking the LA board of supervisors to revise the moratorium to not include unauthorized animals as part of the moratorium or make it so that tenants have to provide proof that the unauthorized animal is here because of COVID reasons.
