The Brothers of Invention Monument

The Brothers of Invention Monument
Why this petition matters

Next to Grand Central station, there will be a small park on Vanderbilt Place.
At this point in time, there is an opportunity for a decision to be made to place a meritorious proposal for an appropriate memorial to great black people in that park.
In this regard, we would like to propose honoring in a group memorial the great black inventors from the age of segregation, whose greatest inventions brought about major innovations in regards to transportation in America and the world.
The great individuals who we propose to include in this group memorial are as follows:
1) Granville Woods
(The underground electrified railroad IE. Our subway system) etc.
2) Lewis Latimer
(Major patented upgrades to the durability of the electric light bulb, the evaporative air conditioner, railroad bathrooms, etc.)
3) Garrett Morgan
(The three-way traffic light and the gas mask, etc)
4) Elijah McCoy
(The automatic lubricator for railroad machinery) the folding ironing board, and the lawn sprinkler, etc.
It is unfortunate that all too many citizens of the United States and young people in our school system are not aware of the tremendous contributions these great black inventors made in the face of incredible adversity.
If a monument in their honor was placed at a major transportation hub with the density of traffic like Grand Central station, the appropriateness of both the subjects and the location placement would be undeniable and truly resonate with our societal consciousness and perform a wonderful educative function for our citizens and our youth.
The purpose of a memorial among other reasons is to inspire and educate, and that is what we would like to see - a truly inspirational memorial to greatness and innovation that's made a major difference for all of us in our quality of life; and also what it is possible for human beings to achieve even in the face of incredible adversity.
