Make School Psychologists mandatory in NYC
Make School Psychologists mandatory in NYC
With suicide rates of NYC teens increasing rapidly, it is impossible to ignore the mental health issues we face. Especially now, with the intense academic pressure and anxiety occurring, along with added stresses such as school shootings, most NYC students have reported having suicidal thoughts or depression at least once. A big issue is NYC's lack of school psychologists. According to NASP, school psychologists should serve no more than 500-700 students, yet many NYC school psychologists serve over 1,500 students. School psychologists can give life changing diagnoses and provide a space for students to talk about mental illness. Miriam and Skye want a law passed requiring school psychologists in every NYC public school.
