Break The Pact, Make a law:

Everyone has the right to live free from violence. Many Canadians across the country continue to face violence every day because of their gender, gender expression, gender identity, or perceived gender. This is referred to as gender-based violence (GBV) and is a violation of human rights. The question is who is affected by gender-based violence?

Women;
Young women and girls;
Indigenous women, girls (2SLGBTQQIA+)
Women living in Northern, rural, and remote communities;
Women living with disabilities.
Transgender and gender diverse people;

Statistics based on past experiences on GBV:

1. According to the Canadian Women Foundation statistic, 2019, a woman is killed by her intimate partner every six days. This proportion is eight times more than men.
2. 53% of women have responded that they have faced at least one type of abusive act in or near their workplace. (Health and Safety Canada, 2015)
only in 2020, 160 girls and women were killed in Canada, (Canadian Femicide Observatory for Justice and Accountability, 2021)
4. Women have fallen out of the labor force 10 times more than men since 2020. (Statistics Canada, 2019)
5. 44% or more than 4 in 10 women have experienced some form of intimate partner violence (IPV) in their lifetimes. (Statistics Canada)
6. Two-thirds (64%) of people in Canada know a woman who has experienced physical, sexual, or emotional abuse (Canadian Women’s Foundation, 2021).

Our Demands:

1. We can explain how in Canada there is a Gender-Based Violence Strategy, but we are looking for a Federal Act. There is no official act or specific Criminal Code in Canada to address GBV. we need something similar to what was done in the USA in 1994 “n 1994, U.S. President Bill Clinton signed the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) into law.”

2. legal instruments, be proposed/adopted with the assistance of MP  and MPP designed to promote gender equality or non-discrimination against women or girls at the Local, Provincial, and National levels.

3. Laws and policies/procedures promoting women’s rights and/or gender issues with improved implementation.

4. Identifying harmful Social practices through issue-based
coalitions advocacy, and addressing all identified Harmful social practices through Laws and regulations or criminal codes, if applicable.

Please join us to raise our voices through this petition. Your participation can bring change to the broken system. we need 500 Signatures to pass our demands to the Legislation of Canada.

Lets hold hands for a change.
