Lake Forest College is a liberal arts college located in north suburb of Chicago. It’s a predominantly white school that preaches equity and inclusion as its foundation, yet not to the minority. Recently, a student at Lake Forest College was accused of harassment among other things to X party. X party brought up evidence and witness testimonies that would indict the student accused and ultimately if found responsible will cease the student’s ability to get housing and education. This student has brought valid evidence, witnesses, as well as many statements they did not commit X’s allegations. The other two alleged in this case were of the white passing. The student found fully responsible is black. All three students came with the same valid evidence on top of witnesses that would exempt the students accused. Only the student who identified as black was held fully responsible. The student held responsible is a student who cares about their education ever so much that they knew if this allegation is on their record it can prevent them from applying to other institutions. The student accused felt they have no use appealing the decision as they felt they had no voice throughout the entire conduct process. Not to mention the people on the conduct board who are supposed to represent the school were all that of white. In any hearing especially for a school like Lake Forest College there should be representation on all fronts. There is no excuse. This student should have felt comfortable before, during, and after the conduct process and the school failed to do that. So I implore you to sign this petition not only for the case of the student accused but to the voices silenced before and for voices of the future foresters of LFC.
