Save The Horses!
Save The Horses!
I have had the privilege to be around horses for most of my life and I am now fortunate enough to ride them and fly over jumps with these incredible animals. The equestrian community and family is an overall very wholesome and down-to-earth group. There are aspects of the industry, however that break my heart when I see them and what people are capable of doing to these beautiful and intelligent animals.
As some of you may already know, equines (in this case horses) are empaths (animals capable of empathy) as well as social animals. There are so many things in the Equine industry that I wish I could fix. (Horse slaughter, Soring (the intentional infliction of pain to a horses legs to create an artificial gait), PMU (using pregnant mare urine as an estrogen drug and then deeming foals without certain qualities to be useless and are often abused, sold, or killed) The first issue I would like to tackle is the treatment of unwanted horses. Many OTTB (Thoroughbreds) that don't make it to the top in the racing world are often sold with haste and to homes that don't truly care about the horses or their wellbeing.
Horrible starvation cases, infections, and injuries are result of this neglect. If you are a wonderful enough person to care for a neglected horse and give it the life it deserves, you are an inspiration and the main fuel to the fire of this petition.
I can't do this alone, but if the equestrian community came together as a whole, and donated to create a sanctuary where abused and neglected horses could find their peace as pasture companions or partners in the show ring with riders that care. If enough people share this petition and we can raise enough money to care for horses that need it, we could find amazing horses their forever homes. My family told me that this would be a wasted effort and that you can't save horses with the silly profit of a petition. They said it would be like running into a brick wall over and over. I hope they will find that the equestrian and animal rights community can move mountains. 1 dollar at a time.
