We ask that Equestrian Australia make a rule change that will allow horses in bitless bridles to compete in all equestrian sports.

Please sign this petition to allow those who choose to ride their horses bitless the opportunity to compete in all equestrian sports throughout Australia alongside bitted horses. This petition is not an attempt to force people to ride bitless but give the same opportunities to compete as those riding with bits. Bitless riding is increasing in popularity at a very steady rate in this country and has proven to be a very safe pastime and those horses who are bitless are very calm, relaxed and happy. The decision to ride bitless should be up to the owner/rider in the best interests of the horse and not be decided by words in a rule book (that can be changed). Surely we are seeking the horse to be responsive to the rider not a piece of equipment, therefore there is no valid reason to refuse riders on bitless horses the opportunity to compete. International experts such as Dr Dwight Bennett, Dr Andrew McLean, Prof. Natalie Waran and Prof. Paul McGreevy are now publicly supporting the use of bitless bridles in competitions. The Netherlands now officially allows bitless riders to compete against bitted riders in dressage. We ask that Australian riders can move forward with the rest of the world towards fairer competition rules for bitless riders. This is an opportunity for Australia to be a world leader in this field.
Quote from Suzy Maloney B.Eq.SC of Happy Horses Bitless:
'Horses can and do respond to a bitless bridle so well that anything that can be done with a bit can also be done bitless just as well if not better'
