There is an unfair bias to funding in public schools ranging from high-income to low-income communities. When comparing public schools in Oakland to public schools in Orinda or Lafayette, the disparity between funding is exponentially clear. It is visible in the facilities, quality of education, and graduation rates between the different cities. Schools should not be solely funded by property taxes and fundraisers but should receive equal funding and attention from the federal government. An example of the neglect of lower-income schools is McClymonds High School in east Oakland. Their student body was found to have high levels of lead and the chemical trichloroethylene (TCE), which is used for industrial cleanup, was commonly found in students. TCE created a major health hazard for the students resulting in the indefinite closing of McClymonds High School, leaving students with no access to education.

California Department of Education can do more to help aid students that now have no access to education at a high school level. With no education, the youth can't grow and prevent these issues in later generations.
