I myself am a member of the LGBT community and so are many of my friends. A lot of young people are forced to stay closeted because of homophobic parents/carers and it's not right. People should be allowed to be themselves and be proud of who they are, they should not have to hide themselves to please others. So many people who have homophobic/transphobic families become depressed and some even take their own lives, this is not okay and we need to so something about it before more young people lose their lives. By gaining equality for the LGBT community, more people will become educated on the community and understand the struggles we've been through- a lot of people are homo/transphobic due to lack of knowledge/incorrect knowledge on the subject and therefore, by properly educating these people, we can hopefully reduce the number of homophobes and make it easier for people of all ages to be themselves. The profits from this petition will go towards Stonewall and Mind, Stonewall is an LGBT support charity, fighting for equal rights and Mind is a mental health charity helping to tackle depression in the younger generations.
