Equal pay for equal work!

Women still make only 77 cents for every dollar a man makes, but the principle of equal pay for equal work got a boost when President Obama highlighted the importance of passing the Paycheck Fairness Act in his State of the Union Address.
This act would, among other reforms, require employers to provide evidence that paying a woman less than a man performing the same job has a true business justification and is "a result of factors other than sex."
And now both the president now and Vice President Joe Biden are whipping support for this legislation in the Senate.
This legislation currently has 34 Senate co-sponsors, but we need more co-sponsors before this bill can pass.
With President Obama himself pushing for a vote on this bill, there is no better time to ask your senators to co-sponsor this vitally important legislation and build momentum for its passage.
Tell your Senators: Support equality in the workplace by co-sponsoring the Paycheck Fairness Act.
Families are suffering because of this wage discrepancy. Over two-thirds of families with children rely on women's income to make ends meet. It's time to pass legislation that would help families by giving women equal pay for equal work.
Paycheck fairness isn't a partisan issue. In fact, this bill passed with overwhelming bi-partisan support in the House. Women receiving the same pay for the same work that men do is common sense and something both Republicans and Democrats should be proud to support.
Republicans in the Senate who oppose women's equality fillibustered this bill the last time it came up for a vote. So now, we we need a filibuster-proof majority to vote for this legislation. And the best way to build momentum in support of this bill is by having more Senators become co-sponsors.
It's time we send the message to women that they are worth as much as men. Tell your Senators: Support equality in the workplace and co-sponsor the Paycheck Fairness Act.
