Stop the use of Landfills
0 have signed. Let’s get to 100!
The first use of landfills began in the year of 1937. Today in 2017, America sadly is still in use of them. This is by far, the oldest system in place today. The United States is the #1 trash producing country in the world!
Meanwhile in Europe, it is made surprisingly simple to recycle and some even make it a law. The streets of Europe are filled with bins especially for glass, batteries, and plastic. They even have used their senses to develop a smarter more clean way to dispose of garbage that is not recycable; burning it. It is actually quite beneficial to the planet, as it converts trash into heat and electricity, it also reduces energy costs and reliance on oil and gas. They have gone as far as diminishing the use of landfills and cutting carbon dioxide emissions.
The United States sadly, is far behind with this technology. There are only 87 trash-burning power plants in the United States, a country of more than 300 million people, and almost all were built at least 15 years ago! Landfills are not only the oldest outdated system in place today, but it also puts much restraint on the planet. Landfills cause pollution to the local environment by contaminating the groundwater and aquifers, contaminating the soil, and producing methane.
So please help me with this mission to do better for our planet.
