Why this petition matters
Started by Mike Neill
The Te Anau Basin is NOT the place for intensified, commercial non-sustainable dairy farming.
Construction of a dairy development beside the Waiau River and on the edge of the Fiordland National Park could damage one of the last strongholds of "100% Pure New Zealand". Effluent nutrients would likely permeate into the upper Waiau River and cause pollution.
It is also highly possible that heavy rainfall after an effluent discharge to land could mean an environmental disaster for the Waiau River and potentially Lake Manapouri.
It is common knowledge that intensive dairy farming is the main threat to much of Aotearoa's water resources so please urge Environment Southland to WITHDRAW THE RESOURCE CONSENTS for this development.
