End Free Plastic Bags!!!

Hi, we are two sisters (age 7 and 9) who are upset by the amount of plastic waste in Australia. Last week we picked up a huge pile of rubbish including many plastic bags at our local beach.

Soon there will more plastic than fish in the world's oceans. Is this what you want for your future? No! Well then we need to do something about it!

Sadly, plastic bags are a routine part of the Australian shopping experience. In Australia we use 10 million plastic bags every day. Most of these are used just once but they last for 500 to 1000 years.

Unfortunately too many people drop litter. It costs the Australian government more than $4 million a year to clean up plastic bag litter. So many bags end up in our oceans. One million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals are killed each year by plastic pollution.

Think that Australians cannot live without plastic bags? Well consider this, all these countries have taken action on plastic bags:
Bangladesh
China
Denmark
England
France
Germany
Hong Kong
Ireland
Italy
Morocco
Rwanda
Scotland
United States of America
Wales

Making people pay for plastic bags reduced use in some counties by up to 75 %.

Now, it's time for Australia to step up to the plate and take action. Be the change you want to see. Sign this petition to end free plastic bags in Australia.
