Sulagna Moitra started this petition to Environment Minister and

Clean air to breathe is our right, which right now, is being denied to us. Every time I look out of my window, I see a smog filled sky which reminds me of the kind of gas chamber we're living in right now. Whenever I go out I feel my eyes itching and a dry cough building up in my throat. Is that what you're going to leave behind for your future generation?

One has heard about winter holidays, summer holidays; but have you ever heard of Smog holiday? Well right now in Delhi, that's what we have. As students this affects our studies for we can't have revisions for our upcoming exams.
But the ones who suffer the most are the above 18 year olds. They have to go to their offices and colleges regularly, despite the poor air quality.

If we were to sit down to discuss the main reasons behind this alarmingly high rate of pollution level, then the first and foremost reason would be the crackers burst during the Diwali season. Even though there was a carpet ban on crackers, still people were able to burst crackers not only ON Diwali but also in the succeeding days.

Another reason behind this pollution is the stubble burning that happens in the agricultural states of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

When AAP spokesperson, Rajiv Chadha was asked about why the Delhi government only was taking actions after the weather had already deteriorated, he blamed the problem on the neighbouring states because of the issue of stubble burning.

Right now what all these political leaders are doing is blaming each other instead of arriving at a fruitful solution. What they must understand is that if I am facing issues because of pollution, i would go to the government and NOT a particular party.

Another thing which a lot of people are saying about this issue is that it is a "North-India problem" which is not true. The problems that we in Delhi are facing is actually co-related to Global warming, which after all is a Global issue.

With the help of this petition, we want sensitise people of the kind of emergency situation we are in. Like the Honourable Supreme Court itself said, this situation is worse than Emergency itself. Through this petition, we urge the central government to have a joint meeting with all the pollution-ridden states to arrive at a solution for this menacing problem.
