Make Straws NO MORE !
Plastic Straws are used just once for around 15-30 minutes or less, yet they can take up to 200 years to decompose. The majority of straws are NOT RECYCLABLE, they end up in oceans. PLASTIC STRAWS are the most common found litter on beaches and in our oceans. Australians use about 10 million straws every day, or 3.5 billion a year. Our beautiful oceans are choking on SINGLE-USE PLASTICS which we encounter every day. By 2050 scientists predict that there will be more plastic in the oceans than there are fish.
Between 4.8 and 12.7 million tonnes of plastic enter the ocean each year. All five of the Earth's major oceans gyres are inundated with plastic pollution. The largest one has been dubbed the Great Pacific Garbage Patch (GPGP). The GPGP is a gyre of plastic debris in the North-Central Pacific Ocean. It's the largest accumulation of plastic in the world. It contains over a shocking 1.8 trillion pieces and grows larger every day. Did you know it is now bigger than the size of the Northern Territory?
McDonald's has announced they will replace single use plastic straws by 2020 and Coca Cola is ceasing their distribution of plastic straws and stirrers from mid 2019. Is this just enough? We need to tackle this problem. We need a smart legislation and regulations towards Cafes, Restaurants and Shopping outlets.
PLASTIC STRAWS are threatening our marine animals due to indigestion and suffocation. At least 20 threatened species have been listed especially turtles and whales. Each day over 250 marine animals and over 2,700 seabirds choke to death on plastic polluting our oceans. Watch this VideoIs this what we really want?
