Why this petition matters

Started by Emily Rosenberg

There are tens of thousands of animals currently imprisoned in zoos in the UK. Many of these animals suffer from severe psychological problems and there are regular stories about abuse and culling. Zoos have no place in a modern society, they do not educate people about animals, they instead send out the message that animals can be dominated and kept for our entertainment.

Currently due to Covid -19, humans are feeling the effects of limited captivity. However we know the reason for our confinement, we can still go out once a day and we know that it will shortly end. However imagine an animal placed in a cage with no idea why it is there, no chance of release and gawped at by humans for entertainment. This is unacceptable to me on every level. This is why I’m leading a campaign to ban zoos in the UK.

Zoos are totally wrong and the marketing around being breeding arks for endangered species is just baseless propaganda. Most zoo populations are inbred, diseased and behaviourally compromised making it impossible for them ever to be released into the wild. They not arks to save endangered species, they are simply animal prisons built to sustain the entities that run them.  I know this from personal experience.

I am planning to lobby the UK government to change the legislation making zoos illegal in the UK but I need your help.

Please sign this petition urgently calling on the UK Government to ban zoos in the UK
