A survey commissioned by Keep Britain Tidy and Brita found that "almost a third of people who regularly use a reusable water bottle buy single-use plastic water bottles as part of a meal deal because they are included in the price".

Many people across the UK now carry their own reusable drinks bottles. However, when buying a meal deal in shops and supermarkets such as Tesco, Boots and M&S, it is often cheaper to purchase a drink even if you don't really need or want one. Retailers should offer meal deals without the drink, at a reduced price, to reflect these changes in consumer preferences and behaviour. This would reduce unnecessary plastic waste and provide consumers with the opportunity to make more environmentally friendly choices.
