Stop Illegal Fires in Earlswood

Residents of Earlswood near Solihull, have for too long suffered from nuisance fires and the resulting air pollution, started on premises which are clearly operating either in breach of their Environment Agency exemption certificates, or without any certificate ever been issued.  Waste is being burned on a large scale in a quiet, picturesque area, with trucks delivering waste on a daily basis posing a safety risk.

The most recent fires caused acrid smoke to blanket properties close to the burn site, with residents over a mile away having to close their windows to prevent the effects of smoke reaching them. Some residents had to consult a doctor the following day as a direct result of smoke inhalation. Others were unable to go into work due to eye or throat ailments caused by the smoke.

There have been multiple breaches of the waste exemption conditions set out by the Environment Agency dating back several years, in addition to people without waste exemption certificates starting illegal fires and the residents have had enough of it.  It’s time for the Environment Agency and Stratford Distrcit Council, to take a stand on behalf of the local residents and put an immediate stop to the illegal fires.
