The World Mining Giants, New Crest and Harmony  Gold have a joint venture project to mine the PNGs largest Gold mine in Morobe Province.  They have proposed to pipe the Mine waste into the Huon Gulf at a discharge point at Wangang village, east of Lae City. The Huon Gulf is part of the Solomon Seas, to which the Pacific Tuna breeeding grounds happens to be located. Beside it will affect the coastal village of Morobe Province, Oro, West New Britain.  If the Project goes ahead, it will become a dumping ground for the next 28-50 years of mining waste being discharges into the oceans and the seas that breed and have been home for the Pacific Tuna industry, destroying the sustain able resource TUNA and the environmental impact it may have on the lives of the future generations.  We are not sure where the Huon gulf current will take and dispose of the waste of the tailing..
