Why this petition matters

Started by R Benders

We the Community are requesting  "Approval" to remove what appears to be the Confederate Flag painting on the street of our Downtown area in Enterprise Alabama. The Confederate flag for African Americans is nothing more than a symbol of terrorism, torture and tragedy. As the swastika is to our Jewish families, so is the Confederate flag to African-American families. When informed Americans of goodwill see it, irrespective of their race, color or creed, they begin to wonder why would this symbol of hate, defiance and intimidation be allowed as a symbol in our community. We would  like more sensitive to the pain Confederate symbols can trigger in our community. No one is stopping individuals from flying a Confederate flag on there private property or longing for one. However, We believe there is no room for the symbolism in the public area in which we pay taxes.
