A letter circulated in the area by Horace Barton & Son, a menswear shop in nearby Regent Street, requested signatures in support for The Flower Man to move to a different location.
The letter claimed the stall was making it more difficult for the street to attract more shoppers and was “crushing future beneficial developments” being planned by the Regent Arcade.
And the arcade has backed Horace Barton & Son’s stance, saying it believes the stall spoils the view close to its Ormond Place entrance.
He said: “I can’t understand it. This is the third time that we’ve been asked to move and the last time that we relocated our turnover was down by a third. I can’t afford to lose that again.
“If we have to move now it will affect my employment as well as my children’s livelihood. We also employ eight other people who would lose their jobs.
Mark Morris has run The Flower Man stall at the junction of Promenade and Ormond Place for 11 years and says there has been a flower stall on the site for 80 years.
