Ask the Whitgift Centre in Croydon to stop using live animals as entertainment

On the 10th and 11th of April 2018 the Whitgift Centre held events using live animals.
* The petting zoo was held in the middle of the shopping centre- a noisy public environment completely unsuitable for animals.
* When not currently in ‘use’ the animals were stored in small containers on the stage.
* The animals were taken out again afterwards and used for photo opportunities.
* There was the continuous handling by the children of different species of animals without hand sanitisation.
Animals are not ‘entertainment’ and endure stress through handling, strange environments and whilst being transported to and from events.
Removing animals from their preferred surroundings and exposing them to unwanted contact and strange environments is not education.
We are asking that the Whitgift and Centrale shopping centres please refrain from using live animals in their future events, and seek other means of educating children about animals such as talks, film, VR or animatronics.
