End the Tardy Sweep at Enloe

End the Tardy Sweep at Enloe

Here at Enloe Magnet High School a new tardy system was implemented. This Tardy system does not help students, but rather affect their learning experience. This is how the tardy system works. When the bell rings teachers will lock their doors, if you are not in class by the time the bell rings, you are tardy. If you do not have a pass from a teacher, you will have to go to the tardy sweep table and get a tardy slip. Excessive tardies lead to harsh consequences. The consequences are as follows:
1-3 Tardies: you will be admitted to class after you receive a slip from the Tardy Sweep table
4-6 Tardies: you will have to go to ISS for the remainder of that class period
7-9 Tardies: You will have to attend ISS for a whole day, and parent/guardian will be called
10 or more Tardies: OSS and talk with Administration
This is a Counterproductive policy, and it should not be used at all. In my opinion, this is another way to hurt students future by negatively impacting their high school experience. This policy will make students stressed when missing work and valuable learning information while they are in ISS. I have a couple of questions, when and how are students supposed to use the bathroom when they have to fear of being “Swept”? How do you think a student will feel when being sent to OSS? Does this help the high school to college pipeline or the high school to prison pipeline? What about the students who can't drive themselves and need a ride from their parent? What about the students who have to help a younger sibling get ready before school? What about the students who have to work a late job to afford everyday life and they sleep in on accident? How does putting a student in ISS for being late 3 times give them the best learning experience? If you agree with this Petition, and disagree with this policy please sign this and help repeal this ignorant system!!
