Enhancing Old Age Pension and other pensions from Rs. 300 pm to Rs. 2000pm

0 have signed. Let’s get to 100!

This is to intimate that since 2008 there is no change in the payment of old age, widows and disability pension of Rs. 300pm in Odisha/India.

More than ten years have nearly been passed and by this time monthly salary and allowances of MLAs (Members of Legislative Assembly) have already been increased by no less than five times and has been above Rs I lakh per month.

On the implementation of 7th pay commission salary and allowances of IAS officers and other employees have also been increased 4 to 5 times.

Again since 2008 and as per wholesale consumer price index payment of DA has been risen from 12 % to 155 % but pension of these nearly 47 lakh beneficiaries still stands at Rs.300 pm. Such a cruel indifference to them is really unpalatable.

They constitute mainly of construction workers, peasants, agricultural workers, small peasants, quarry workers, workers and small shop-keepers. So many of them have contributed their youth and able period of life for the development of the society as well as of the State of Odisha.

In point of economic reviews it is universally recognized that pension is not a mercy by the government but an earned wages as they played an important role in reconstruction of the country.

As per the provision of article 47 of the constitution the state should look after that such and every citizen should get an honorable living with food and basic needs of the day to day life.

In comparison to neighboring state like in Andhra Pradesh Old Age Pension, Widows Pension and Disability Pension are Rs. 1000pm, in Telengana Rs. 1500 pm; in West Bengal Rs. 750pm; in Karnataka, Tamilnadu and Kerala each pension is Rs. 1000pm, in Haryana Rs. 1200pm; in Delhi and Goa in each category beneficiaries are getting Rs. 2000 pm.

But in Odisha it stuck at Rs. 300 per month.

Hence, we undersigned appeal to the government of Odisha;

a)     eligibility to get pension should be 55 years and above,

b)    old age pension, widow pension and disability pension should be enhanced to Rs. 2000 pm,

c)     like government employees, a DA should be paid in every six months as per the increase of whole sale consumer price index on our basic pension of Rs. 2000 pm,

d)    instead of privatization of health services primary and basic health service should be provided to all,

e)     Distress women, single women and transgender should be brought under social security schemes.
