Enhance Alcohol Labelling for Allergy Safety

Enhance Alcohol Labelling for Allergy Safety
The Issue
As someone with multiple food allergies, I can tell you from memory the majority of ingredients on supermarket food. I can tell you which supermarket puts dairy in which dip, and which doesn't. What I can't tell you is the ingredients of this week's beer in a bar.
Every meal requires careful consideration, and often every drink involved delaying the round while you stand and try and Google what's in that drink, often to no avail, or reading cans to see what grain something is made of. I understand that alcohol isn't compulsory, but it'd be good if it was a bit easier and less risky. One Christmas party ended with shots of adrenaline rather than tequila, after an undisclosed ingredient sent me into anaphylactic shock.
When it comes to alcohol, transparency often falls short.
Pre-packaged foods are required to list ingredients clearly, but this lifesaving rule doesn’t extend to alcoholic drinks. This gap in labeling leaves people with allergies vulnerable. Alcohol can contain common allergens—for example, gin may be distilled from wheat, corn, or other grains—but this information is rarely provided. Do the hops in that beer just taste of pineapple, or is the beer washed through pineapple?
We’re calling for a simple but important change: clear labeling of all ingredients in alcoholic drinks. This would help not just those with allergies, but anyone who wants to make informed choices about what they consume.
It’s time for alcohol labeling laws to align with food regulations. Please support this petition to improve transparency and help protect public health.
