Women fleeing domestic abuse & violence are met with a serious challenge before they've even left their home & that's the problem of financial exploitation. Often women don't  have their own bank account & they rely on their abuser to make funds available for them. Often a woman won't have ID because it's another way for the perpetrator to exert their control.

I would like to see a new way of enabling women to gain financial independence through the creation of a photo national insurance card. The card would ensure that women have the ID proof they need to open their own bank account once they've fled the abusive situation.

The card would provide immediate verification that would mean that a woman can open an account & have benefits transferred into it quickly so she can meet her needs & those of her children. It's also a standard form of ID that can be used in a variety of situations & would be useful where a person can't provide a passport or a driving licence.

Please help me to lobby to implement an ID format that would make a huge difference to the lives of many vulnerable women & families. Let's work together to change the face of financial exploitation.
