Damien Bush started this petition to England and Wales Cricket Board

The proposed abolition of the fifth day in Test Match cricket will remove the unique nature of this format of the game. It is motivated purely by greed: it is designed merely to squeeze more short-format contests out of an already over-crowded international fixture list and will do nothing for player welfare or spectator enjoyment.

It has also been suggested that more overs could be fitted into prolonged days 1-4, but with over rates as they are, this would mean many spectators, travelling some distance to Test venues, missing out on part of their day’s entertainment.

Five-day Test cricket has produced some of the most dramatic sport witnessed in recent times - players and connoisseurs of the game alike recognise it as the ultimate expression of skill and endeavour. it would be a very short-sighted step to neuter the very essence of the highest form of the game for the sake of a few shekels.
