More than 230 mass shootings by the 154th day of the year: The unfortunate headline of the United States that we have grown disgustingly used to seeing. Outdated gun laws have led to 256 people dying due to gun violence in the past 5 months alone, how many more do we need to see before change occurs? Our government, the one that had us pledging our allegiance as "one nation" for the sake of "justice for all" every morning before school started, has created a system in which that very school can threaten the lives of those in said "one nation." Where is the justice in this? 

This ends here. Stricter gun control is one step towards a safer country, the same country where getting birth control is somehow harder than getting an automated mass murder weapon. This petition is a way for us to show those in charge that we are truly that one nation we spoke of as children. The one nation that stands up to protect each other, and NOT protect those who are bent on breaking those around them, even though that is exactly who the government has done a phenomenal job of protecting thus far. 

I know, right now the thought may be " how will a simple petition bring about stricter gun control laws?" A very fair statement, however it is through these very petitions that we as Americans have brought about many great changes to this country. Cases such as Elijah McClain, Emergency Stimulus checks during COVID, the banning of UNL-FIJI for sexual assault, justice for Trayvon Martin are a few examples of how a petition went a long way in bringing justice to those that were wronged.
