Enfield Council - declare a Climate Emergency

Jon Hall started this petition to ENFIELD COUNCIL

In December of 2018 the ICC reports on climate change forecast a devastating future for our planet if we do not take drastic and immediate action to tackle climate change. We now have a very small window of 11 years to avoid the worst effects of Climate Change and keep global warming to below 1.5C. As we are now in a Climate Emergency it is up to all local governments to commit to ambitious zero emissions targets and to divest council funds from fossil fuels with immediate effect. Haringey, Waltham Forest and 83 other local authorities in the UK have all declared climate emergencies. Enfield needs to build on its existing achievements and commit to be carbon neutral by 2025. It needs to provide further infrastructure to encourage walking and cycling, charging points for electric vehicles, sustainable housing developments and clean-air zones. Declaring a climate emergency sends a clear message to residents, businesses and other councils that the time to act is now.
