Zambia currently has electricity shortages and the power electric company has been rationing the distribution of power throughout the country by way of loadshading which has affected many businesses and individuals.

It's obvious that the demand for electricity in the country has increased. The major country's source of power is the Kariba dam constructed in the colonial error. The dam has over lived its days and it's production capacity cannot match the current demand.

Its a logically true that the solution is to increase power generation in order to meet the current and future demand. It's also true that there are some pockets of new power generation projects being undertaken to reduce this gap but not sufficient to meet the demand.

Just from nowhere the power utility (ZESCO ) now wants to purchase remote controlled meters (Smart Meters) so that they can be regulating customer consumption. Imagine you're taking a hot shower then someone switches off the geyser!! That's what ZESCO wants to be doing. 

We are petitioning ZESCO to halt the purchase of these meters but instead buy a Solar Plant that will be Smart Enough to cushion the demand by increasing power generation.

$40m Solar power supply can produce on average above 200MW of electricity. That is smart and climate friendly. That's a good addition to the national grid. 

Zambia needs increased power generation not Limited consumption.
