End Voter Suppression In MA

End Voter Suppression In MA
Why this petition matters
Voters across the country are affected by voter suppression. It leads to the silencing of people's voices, politicians not favored by the majority of people being elected, and vital policies not being enacted. Voter suppression measures are often put in place disguised as "ensuring the integrity of elections", but this is far from the truth. Many of these laws make it much more difficult to vote and require unreasonable amounts of documentation and proof to vote. This just slows down elections and makes it so the voting process is more difficult without really doing anything. These archaic laws must cease.
In the Texas primaries earlier this year, over 25,000 votes were thrown out as a result of a voter suppression policy. It confused many voters, as the policy wasn't clear. This is happening in many other states and over 440 bills are currently on state legislation floors. We need federal regulations as well as to protect voting rights in Massachusetts.
We need to take action and pressure both the Massachusetts legislation to remove these policies and pressure federal representatives. With more free and just voting policies, issues like climate change, student debt, and more have a higher chance of being properly addressed.
Once this petition gets over 100 signatures we will be able to send it to representative Jake Auchincloss and get the VOTES Act, a bill proposing to protect and give more voice back to voters. Please add your name to show your support.
