End the Cycle: Addressing Intergenerational Trauma from Domestic Abuse

End the Cycle: Addressing Intergenerational Trauma from Domestic Abuse
The Issue
We, the students from BAMH, call for urgent action to address the impact of intergenerational trauma caused by domestic abuse.
Domestic abuse has its lasting effects that limit generations. Children who grow up in abusive households are more likely to experience mental health struggles, engage in unhealthy relationships, and even perpetuate cycles of violence. Intergenerational trauma, where the psychological impact of abuse is passed down and it is a public health crisis that requires urgent action.
Trauma impacts the brain, affecting emotional regulation, stress responses, and the ability to form healthy relationships. Without early intervention, the effects of domestic abuse can persist across multiple generations, impacting not just individuals but entire communities. Trauma-informed education and accessible mental health services can help break this cycle, helping survivors heal and preventing future abuse.
We urge the government to take the following actions:
Integrate trauma-informed education into school curricula, teaching students about healthy relationships, emotional regulation, and coping strategies.
Increase funding for mental health services, ensuring accessible therapy for survivors of domestic abuse and their families.
Provide training for educators, social workers, and healthcare professionals to recognize and respond to signs of intergenerational trauma.
By signing this petition, you are advocating for systemic change that will protect future generations from the damaging effects of domestic abuse. Together, we can build a society that prioritizes healing, resilience, and safety.
