Why this petition matters

Started by Margot Sarris

What does a dog need to be truly happy? They need love, compassion and kindness! Sadly thousands of dogs across our nation do not ever get these basic necessities. We know everyone loves puppies, but did you no know that 99% of all pet stores are supplied by puppy mills across the country. These facilities are not only overcrowded, but they keep dogs constantly caged, and rarely are they clean or inspected. Puppy-mill kennels can consist of anything from small cages made of wood and wire mesh to tractor-trailer cabs to simple tethers attached to trees. Female dogs are bred usually twice a year and are usually killed or abandoned when they are no longer able to produce puppies. Mothers and their litters often suffer from malnutrition, exposure, and a lack of adequate veterinary care.

Harley was a male chihuahua like this who was kept in a puppy mill to bred for 10 years. He was kept in a small wire cage, producing puppies for pet stores. He lost his eye when his cage was being washed with a power washer while he was still inside of it. He never got to see the sun, or feel the grass under his paws or have any love, until he was adopted by a caring stranger. His life finally had purpose. Once rescued, he and his owner set off to rescue lots of dogs from puppy mills. Harley spread the word that there are things everyone can do to help stop puppy mills. In everything he did, he always did them with compassion, forgiveness, and lots of love. You can stand up and spread the word like Harley!
