Talea Korfe started this petition to (Higher) education system in the Netherlands

When thinking about period poverty people tend to think of third world countries. However, a study from Plan International has shown that around 9% of Dutch girls and womxn between the ages of 12 and 25 only sometimes have enough money for sanitary products like pads or tampons.

Menstruating is something that the person experiencing it mostly cannot avoid and therefore, making people pay for sanitary products such as pads and tampons seems unfair or even unjust.  Every month there are womxn and girls in the Netherlands that cannot afford sanitary products which in the worst case leads to them missing school or work.

Therefore, we think in honour of this International Women’s Day it would be a great initiative to demand free sanitary products at every (higher) education institution within the Netherlands. This is why we the Student Centre of Diversity Advocacy and Inclusion (SCDAI) have created this petition.

It actually has been proven that it is possible. Scotland has shown that taking these significant steps to end period poverty is possible. Because access to free menstrual products also within the educational sector is a right!
