The Issue

We, the undersigned students, parents, educators, and community members, demand that the Clark County School District (CCSD) fully and immediately implement Assembly Bill 224 (AB224) by providing free, consistently stocked menstrual product dispensers in all high school bathrooms.

The Issue: AB224, passed in 2021, mandates that public high schools provide free menstrual products. Despite this, many CCSD schools have not complied, causing students to face unnecessary disruptions, embarrassment, and health risks due to inadequate access. This failure undermines students’ right to equitable education and well-being.

The Impact on Students:

  • Educational Disruptions: A 2021 study revealed that 1 in 4 teens in the U.S. has missed class due to a lack of access to period supplies. This leads to significant learning gaps and affects students’ academic performance.
  • Embarrassment and Stigma: CCSD students have reported feelings of embarrassment and shame when they lack menstrual products, which can result in avoiding school activities or leaving school early to manage their periods.
  • Health Risks: Insufficient access to menstrual products can lead to the use of unsanitary alternatives, increasing the risk of infections and other health issues.
  • Mental Well-being: The stress and anxiety associated with not having reliable access to menstrual products negatively affect students' mental health, making it harder for them to concentrate and fully participate in school.

What We Demand:

  1. Immediate Installation: Equip all high school bathrooms with menstrual product dispensers this academic year.
  2. Reliable Stocking Protocols: Ensure products are always available, with strict oversight to prevent shortages.
  3. Clear Communication: Inform students about their right to access these essential products and how to do so.

Take Action Now! CCSD students have waited long enough. Sign this petition to demand immediate, district-wide implementation of AB224 and ensure menstrual equity for every student.
