End Parental Rights of Rapists in Maryland!

0 have signed. Let’s get to 1,000!

Tell the Maryland General Assembly to make the Rape Survivor Family Protection Act a priority bill if there is a 2017 Special Session. For the ninth time, Maryland lawmakers have failed to pass a bill enabling a rape victim who becomes pregnant through rape to terminate the parental rights of her rapist.

Please sign this petition to Senate President Thomas V. “Mike” Miller and House Speaker Mike Busch demanding that any 2017 Special Session include passage of the Rape Survivor Family Protection Act. Let the leadership know that Marylanders unequivocally support giving rape victims the power to end the parental rights of their rapist and #WomenAreWatching.

By signing this petition you are sending this message:

Dear President Miller and Speaker Busch:

The failure of the General Assembly to pass the Rape Survivor Family Protection Act for the ninth time is a disgrace. This legislation has bipartisan support and the support of a majority of the Senate and House. It is supported by Attorney General Brian Frosh and a multitude of organizations from across the political spectrum including Women Legislators of Maryland, Women’s Law Center of Maryland, Maryland Coalition Against Sexual Assault, Maryland Catholic Conference, Planned Parenthood, NARAL-MD, MD Chapter of National Association of Social Workers and the Maryland Legislative Agenda for Women.

Thank you for your past efforts to move this bill forward, but after nine sessions the time has come to prioritize this legislation. We demand that Senate and House leadership include passage of the Rape Survivor Family Protection Act in any Special Session that may be held this year. If that opportunity does not arise, we demand that this legislation be the top priority of the 2018 legislative session and the bill is not allowed to fail again.
