U.S. MILITARY POISONS THE SUMMIT OF HALEAKALĀ

The recent contamination incident at Haleakalā is yet another example of the U.S. military’s detrimental impact on Hawai’i’s sacred places, natural resources, and people. The U.S. Space Forces Indo-Pacific, by way of the MAUI SPACE SURVEILLANCE COMPLEX showcased their incompetence and lack of human decency when they allowed more than 700 gallons of diesel fuel to be spilled atop Haleakalā. Kākoʻo Haleakalā remains steadfast that no further desecration should take place atop this, or any other mountain. We call for the removal of all telescopes from Haleakalā and Mauna Kea. This is just the most recent example of how U.S. imperialism and military hegemony are protected in the Pacific while Hawaiians are ignored, and our ʻāina is violated. We demand that the United States and the State of Hawai’i stop their continued abuse of ʻāina and kanaka in all of Hawaiʻi including Kahoʻolawe, Pōhakuloa, Makua Valley, Nohili and Kapūkākī.
