It’s barbaric, archaic, and a cruel form of child abuse for a cultural practice deeply rooted in controlling a woman and her basic human rights. The physical, mental, and psychological ramifications are immense to bear, and must be banned worldwide. The human body is a beautiful blessing we have been granted and we must respect all of it. No one has the right to cause harm.

I recently came across this obscured barbaric practice amongst the Bohra community and I felt crestfallen though I didn't suffer that pain and agony but I shuddered at the thought of it.

I'm not from India and I'm not a woman but this needs to stop, this tradition is disgusting and has not been found to have any relation to any kind of religious beliefs. The Idea that cutting off part of someone's body purifies them sickens me. In no way does this stop women from caving into sexual desires, here in the United States no such thing is spoken of.

As the future citizens I believe it is our job to make sure such malpractices are forbidden.

I'm signing because female genital cutting is a global issue. It happens to girls in more than 90 countries. I stand in solidarity with my sisters in India.
