In this modern age when we as a nation of animal lovers are so aware of the impact of cruelty towards animals in other areas of the entertainment industry, it seems utterly inconsistent that we still allow this appalling trade to continue. I walked along Scarborough beach this morning under what was already a strong early summer sun, and the donkeys were already out, tethered to their handlers, forced to stand still, weighed down with what seemed like saddles, and clearly destined for a long hard day's work in the hot temperatures. 

This is completely unacceptable and unnecessary, and these poor donkeys need our support and kindness, and to not be used as toys for tourists.
