kacey Brantley started this petition to End Discriminatory Dress Code in School

To start, dress code is an unnecessary excuse for the schools and district to controll kids. Schools are a learning environment where teachers teach and students learn. Among all of the problems that happen at school l, dress code is my main concern. If a school is supposed to be welcoming and excepting with the opportunity to express ourselves, why should we be sexualized by our skin that we were born with. People with fat phobias are shaming us of our cleavage when we cannot control where the fat on our body decides to deposit.

To explain the many scenarios that I've encountered and overheard would take a while book but a few are all I need. For the first scenario there was a girl that wore a tight fitted dress that was her size, she was walking down the hall and one of the male administrators stopped her and explained how he could not focus on walking because the dress outlined her body and it was inappropriate of her to wear such a dress. Another example was a boy who wore a tank top and administrator pulled the boy aside and told him that he cannot wear that because the girls will complain and say that it is not fair. The last encounter was with me, I wore a spaghetti strapped shirt because it was over 100 degrees outside and the schools air conditioning was hardly working. I was called to the administrators office to be excused and sent home, the entire time I was in the office waiting for my mother to come pick me up the male administrators we're telling me how discusting I was to wear such a shirt. They were also telling me that I was the reason boys and teachers can not focus. The lady that was in the front office told me that it was unexeptable to wear a revealing shirt like that and also said that no one needs to see my body exposed like that.

The effects that dress code has on girls is showing that it is ok for male teachers so look at us CHILDREN and TEENS in an inappropriate way because our skin is showing. The dress code on boys is a thin string just to make it fair so that us girls won't "complain" but I will complain because the actions of these teachers are unexeptable. Why should girls need to "cover up" just to be acceptable to the male gaze. Why should schools teaching girls to look a certain way, why not teach boys to not be perverted or to respect girls and to not stare.
