End Discrimination and Misunderstanding of Therians, Kemonomimis, and Furries

The Issue

As someone who has witnessed firsthand the hate and misunderstanding targeted at my friends who identify as Therians, Kemonomimis, or Furries, I know how harmful ignorance can be. These individuals, often misunderstood or reduced to stereotypes, face unnecessary and hurtful discrimination. This petition seeks to advocate for a better understanding and acceptance of these uniquely expressive communities.

Misunderstanding about these groups is prevalent. Many people conflate these communities together, despite them having separate identities. Therians believe they have the spiritual connection to or are in some way, an animal. Kemonomimis, often seen in fandoms, represent people who have human body but with animal characteristics. Furries, on the other hand, appreciate, create, and use anthropomorphic animal characters, all of these people DO NOT have a sexual attraction to animals in any shape or form.

While data on the number of individuals who identify within these communities is not well tracked, one online survey noted that approximately 60,000 people identified as furries in 2007, indicating the significant number of people affected by these prejudices (Plante et al., 2016).

By signing this petition, we are not just standing up against the discrimination, but we are promoting education and respect towards the individuality and character of these communities. Understanding is the first step towards acceptance, and it is only through knowledge and compassion that we can put an end to the hate currently targeted at them. Join us in championing the dignity and respect of all individuals. Please sign this petition today.
