Petition by Mallorca Against Bullfighting: END BULLFIGHTING IN INCA AND MALLORCA - NOW!

To Mayor Virgilio Moreno Sarrió and all the members of the Municipal Council, Plaça Espanya, 1, 07300 Inca 

We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned about future bullfights in Inca and Mallorca. Mostly because very young bulls and adult bulls, who are innocent, trusting and playful. Not only are they publicly subjected to cruelty, torment and disgrace. They are being tortured before entering the bull fighting ring, among others, to these practices: smearing their eyes with petroleum jelly to blur their vision; food and water deprivation for days, rubbing caustic substances into their skin to impair their coordination, shoving a needle into their testicles, before they’re beaten in the loins with sandbags.

And after all that, these defenseless creatures will have no chance to escape a death of blood loss and exhaustion in front of a sadistic, cheering audience. A humiliation. Useless. Unjustifiable, even if bullfighting is a tradition from the past. Does this tradition of torture and brutality really belong to the shining Mallorca its image campaigns suggest? The answer is: Mallorca, Inca, Palma, abolish bullfighting for ever! You will be aware, that nowadays, travelers increasingly prefer destinations that embody ethical and sustainable values. Therefore, you know that perpetuating this brutality will tarnish our shining image. Consider the economic importance of tourism for our region and for Mallorca. If word spreads more and more of this very ugly, dark side of Inca and "La isla bonita" as a whole – and it will! - this tradition will certainly deter tourists from all over the world, especially the wealthy visitors from the USA, Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland who you’re so keen on. As soon as the campaigns take hold to inform the travel industry and the press about this public torture of innocent and, as in Inca, young "sweet" calves, the image of your city as an attractive tourist destination will suffer greatly and in the long run. This is already certain.

Please decide for the welfare of your community and the creatures to be spared in the future and stop this and all further bullfights. By doing so, you would make us and many animal welfare organizations worldwide publicly praise Inca. Our word on it!

We implore you to heed our request and ban bullfighting forever.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your attention and commitment to animal rights and to a climate of responsible and successful tourism. 

Inca and Mallorca will be proud if they follow our petition!

Los abajo firmantes estamos muy preocupados por las futuras corridas de toros en Mallorca. Sobre todo porque toros muy jóvenes y toros adultos, que son inocentes, confiados y juguetones. No sólo son sometidos públicamente a la crueldad, el tormento y la deshonra. Se les tortura antes de entrar en la plaza de toros, entre otras, a estas prácticas: untarles los ojos con vaselina para nublarles la vista; privarles de comida y agua durante días, frotarles sustancias cáusticas en la piel para perjudicar su coordinación, clavarles una aguja en los testículos, antes de golpearles en los lomos con sacos de arena.
Y después de todo eso, estas criaturas indefensas no tendrán ninguna posibilidad de escapar a una muerte por pérdida de sangre y agotamiento ante un público sádico y animado. Una humillación. Inútil. Injustificable, aunque la tauromaquia sea una tradición del pasado. ¿Pertenece realmente esta tradición de tortura y brutalidad a la brillante Mallorca que sugieren sus campañas de imagen? La respuesta es: Mallorca, Inca, Palma, ¡abolid las corridas de toros para siempre! Ya sabrás que, hoy en día, los viajeros prefieren cada vez más los destinos que encarnan valores éticos y sostenibles. Por lo tanto, saben que perpetuar esta brutalidad empañará nuestra brillante imagen.

Pensemos en la importancia económica del turismo para nuestra región y para Mallorca. Si se corre la voz cada vez más de este lado tan feo y oscuro de Inca y de "La isla bonita" en su conjunto -¡y lo hará! - esta tradición disuadirá sin duda a turistas de todo el mundo, especialmente a los visitantes adinerados de EE.UU., Alemania, los Países Bajos y Suiza que a usted tanto le interesan. En cuanto arraiguen las campañas para informar al sector turístico y a la prensa sobre esta tortura pública de inocentes y, como en Inca, jóvenes terneros "dulces", la imagen de su ciudad como destino turístico atractivo sufrirá mucho y a largo plazo. Esto ya es seguro.

Por favor, decídase por el bienestar de su comunidad y de las criaturas que se salvarán en el futuro y detenga ésta y todas las corridas de toros futuras. Al hacerlo, usted haría que nosotros y muchas organizaciones de bienestar animal de todo el mundo elogiáramos públicamente a Inca. Le damos nuestra palabra.
Le imploramos que acceda a nuestra petición y prohíba para siempre las corridas de toros en la isla. 

Le agradecemos de todo corazón su atención y compromiso con los derechos de los animales y con un clima de turismo responsable y exitoso.

Wir, die Unterzeichnenden, sind sehr besorgt über zukünftige Stierkämpfe in Inca und auf ganz Mallorca. Vor allem, weil sehr junge Stiere und erwachsene Stiere, die unschuldig, vertrauensvoll und verspielt sind. Sie werden nicht nur öffentlich der Grausamkeit, Quälerei und Schande ausgesetzt. Bevor sie in die Stierkampfarena kommen, werden sie unter anderem mit folgenden Praktiken gequält: Einschmieren der Augen mit Vaseline, um die Sicht zu trüben, tagelanger Nahrungs- und Wasserentzug, Einreiben der Haut mit ätzenden Substanzen, um die Koordination zu beeinträchtigen, Einstechen einer Nadel in die Hoden, bevor sie mit Sandsäcken in die Lenden geprügelt werden.

Und nach all dem haben diese wehrlosen Kreaturen keine Chance, einem Tod durch Blutverlust und Erschöpfung vor einem sadistischen, jubelnden Publikum zu entgehen. Eine Demütigung. Nutzlos. Nicht zu rechtfertigen, auch wenn der Stierkampf eine Tradition aus der Vergangenheit ist. Gehört diese Tradition des Quälens und der Brutalität wirklich zu dem strahlenden Mallorca, das seine Imagekampagnen suggerieren? Die Antwort ist: Mallorca, Inca, Palma, schafft den Stierkampf für immer ab! Sie werden wissen, dass Reisende heutzutage zunehmend Reiseziele bevorzugen, die ethische und nachhaltige Werte verkörpern. Daher wissen Sie, dass die Fortführung dieser Brutalität unser glänzendes Image trüben wird.

Denken Sie an die wirtschaftliche Bedeutung des Tourismus für unsere Region und für Mallorca. Wenn sich diese sehr hässliche, dunkle Seite von Inca und "La isla bonita" insgesamt mehr und mehr herumspricht - und das wird sie! - wird diese Tradition sicherlich Touristen aus aller Welt abschrecken, vor allem die wohlhabenden Besucher aus den USA, Deutschland, den Niederlanden und der Schweiz, auf die Sie so scharf sind. Sobald die Kampagnen greifen, um die Reiseindustrie und die Presse über diese öffentliche Folterung unschuldiger und, wie in der Inka-Sprache, junger "süßer" Kälber zu informieren, wird das Image Ihrer Stadt als attraktives Reiseziel stark und auf Dauer leiden. Dies ist bereits sicher.

Bitte entscheiden Sie sich zum Wohle Ihrer Gemeinde und der Tiere, die in Zukunft verschont werden sollen, und stoppen Sie diesen und alle weiteren Stierkämpfe. Damit würden Sie uns und viele Tierschutzorganisationen weltweit dazu bringen, Inca öffentlich zu loben. Unser Wort darauf!
Wir bitten Sie inständig, unserer Bitte nachzukommen und die Stierkämpfe auf Mallorca für immer zu verbieten.

Wir danken Ihnen von ganzem Herzen für Ihre Aufmerksamkeit und Ihr Engagement für den Tierschutz und für ein Klima des verantwortungsvollen und erfolgreichen Tourismus.

Nous, soussignés, sommes profondément préoccupés par les futures corridas à Majorque. En effet, de très jeunes taureaux et des taureaux adultes, qui sont innocents, confiants et enjoués. Non seulement ils sont publiquement soumis à la cruauté, aux tourments et à l'opprobre, mais ils sont également torturés avant d'entrer dans la corrida. Avant d'entrer dans l'arène, ils sont torturés, entre autres, selon les pratiques suivantes : on leur enduit les yeux de vaseline pour brouiller leur vision, on les prive d'eau et de nourriture pendant des jours, on leur frotte la peau avec des substances caustiques pour altérer leur coordination, on leur enfonce une aiguille dans les testicules, avant de les frapper dans les reins avec des sacs de sable.

Et après tout cela, ces créatures sans défense n'auront aucune chance d'échapper à une mort par hémorragie et épuisement devant un public sadique qui les acclame. Une humiliation. Inutile. Injustifiable, même si la corrida est une tradition du passé. Cette tradition de torture et de brutalité appartient-elle vraiment à l'éclatante Majorque que ses campagnes d'image suggèrent ? La réponse est oui : Majorque, Inca, Palma, abolissez la corrida pour toujours ! Vous n'êtes pas sans savoir qu'aujourd'hui, les voyageurs préfèrent de plus en plus les destinations qui incarnent des valeurs éthiques et durables. Vous savez donc que la perpétuation de cette brutalité ternira notre image de marque.

Pensez à l'importance économique du tourisme pour notre région et pour Majorque. Si le bruit se répand de plus en plus de ce côté très laid et sombre d'Inca et de "La isla bonita" dans son ensemble - et il se répandra ! - cette tradition dissuadera certainement les touristes du monde entier, en particulier les riches visiteurs des États-Unis, de l'Allemagne, des Pays-Bas et de la Suisse que vous aimez tant. Dès que les campagnes d'information de l'industrie du voyage et de la presse sur cette torture publique d'innocents et, comme dans l'Inca, de jeunes veaux "doux", se mettront en place, l'image de votre ville en tant que destination touristique attrayante en pâtira grandement et à long terme. Cela est d'ores et déjà certain.

Veuillez décider, pour le bien-être de votre communauté et des créatures à épargner à l'avenir, de mettre un terme à cette corrida et à toutes les autres. Ce faisant, vous nous feriez, ainsi que de nombreuses organisations de protection des animaux dans le monde entier, faire publiquement l'éloge d'Inca. Notre parole !

Nous vous demandons instamment de prendre en compte notre requête et d'abolir les corridas à Majorque.

Wij, ondergetekenden, maken ons grote zorgen over toekomstige stierengevechten op Mallorca. Vooral omdat zeer jonge stieren en volwassen stieren, die onschuldig, vertrouwend en speels zijn. Niet alleen worden ze publiekelijk onderworpen aan wreedheid, kwelling en schande. Ze worden gemarteld voordat ze de arena ingaan, onder andere met de volgende praktijken: hun ogen insmeren met vaseline om hun zicht te vertroebelen; dagenlang voedsel en water ontberen, bijtende stoffen in hun huid wrijven om hun coördinatievermogen te verminderen, een naald in hun testikels steken, voordat ze in hun lendenen worden geslagen met zandzakken.

En na dat alles hebben deze weerloze wezens geen kans om te ontsnappen aan een dood van bloedverlies en uitputting voor een sadistisch, juichend publiek. Een vernedering. Nutteloos. Ongerechtvaardigd, ook al is het stierenvechten een traditie uit het verleden. Hoort deze traditie van marteling en wreedheid echt bij het stralende Mallorca dat de imagocampagnes suggereren? Het antwoord is: Mallorca, Inca, Palma, schaf het stierenvechten voor altijd af! Je zult je ervan bewust zijn dat reizigers tegenwoordig steeds meer de voorkeur geven aan bestemmingen die ethische en duurzame waarden belichamen. Daarom weet je dat het in stand houden van deze wreedheid ons glanzende imago zal aantasten.

Denk eens aan het economische belang van toerisme voor onze regio en voor Mallorca. Als deze lelijke, duistere kant van Inca en "La isla bonita" als geheel steeds meer bekend wordt - en dat zal gebeuren! - zal deze traditie zeker toeristen van over de hele wereld afschrikken, vooral de rijke bezoekers uit de VS, Duitsland, Nederland en Zwitserland waar jullie zo op gebrand zijn. Zodra er campagnes worden gevoerd om de reisindustrie en de pers te informeren over deze openbare marteling van onschuldige en, zoals in het Inca-tijdperk, jonge "lieve" kalfjes, zal het imago van jullie stad als aantrekkelijke toeristische bestemming hier zwaar onder lijden. Dit is nu al zeker.

Beslis alstublieft voor het welzijn van uw gemeenschap en de dieren die in de toekomst gespaard moeten worden en stop deze en alle andere stierengevechten. Door dit te doen, zou u ons en vele dierenwelzijnsorganisaties wereldwijd publiekelijk lof doen toezwaaien aan Inca. Dat is ons woord!

We dringen er bij u op aan om ons verzoek in te willigen en het stierenvechten voor altijd te verbieden.

Wij danken u uit de grond van ons hart voor uw aandacht en inzet voor dierenrechten en voor een klimaat van verantwoord en succesvol toerisme.

Inca en Mallorca zullen trots zijn als ze onze petitie volgen!
