the responsibility of raising a child falls upon the woman- as numerous divorce and child custody disputes will affirm (another travesty, but not the topic here). if the court will award a mother custody unless glaring threats to the child's well-being are present, should the court not also award a woman the power to decide whether or not she brings a child into the world to begin with? childbirth is irrefutably a woman's experience, and irrefutably requires a willing male participant. being responsible for the consequences of a decision should include birth control, because that IS taking responsibility.

The only way to guarantee a woman's undisputed right to control her own body now seems to be by constitutional amendment.

Women are in charge of their own bodies. No man nor women nor government should have the right to tell me what to do with my body. Period.

I am a young woman , and as a young woman I believe that it should be completely up to me how my sexual life will occur, my number of children, and how i would like to keep myself protected and safe.

Together, Women Are Strong
If we're by ourselves we come to feel crazy and alone. We need to make alternate families of small groups of women who support each other, talk to each other regularly, can speak their truths and their experiences and find they're not alone in them, that other women have them, too…. It makes such a huge difference.
-- Gloria Steinem

Sisters: talk to each other, be connected and informed, form women's circles, share your stories, work together, and take risks. Together we are invincible.
-- Isabel Allende

What Message Would You Most Want to Instill in Young Girls?
You are more powerful than you know; you are beautiful just as you are.
-- Melissa Etheridge

We need to help them really internalize the message that good enough is good enough. We don't need to be perfect. We're not supposed to be perfect; we're supposed to be complete. And you can't be complete if you're trying to be perfect.
-- Jane Fonda

Speaking Our Truth
Give voice to what you know to be true, and do not be afraid of being disliked or exiled. I think that's the hard work of standing up for what you see.
--Eve Ensler

It took me quite a long time to develop a voice, and now that I have it, I am not going to be silent.

Reproductive freedom is basic to all women, whether they want families or not.

OMG, I can't believe that my granddaughters might well face all of the reproductive restrictions their great-great grandmothers did. Those who would restrict reproductive rights NEVER help with the care, feeding or education of these unwanted children let alone the care, feeding or education of the mother. These 19th century attitudes about women's reproductive rights must be stopped NOW.

Because I am a woman. Because, though I never could have children, and though I'm past the age of childbearing even if I could, I am furious that the right for women to control their own reproduction is being attacked. Because I have adopted daughters and granddaughters who deserve to control their lives. And because all women in this free republic, regardless of party, should not have to fight this battle over and over.

Without these rights a woman is property. Living in poverty.
