Petition against Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: Employers to Regulate Manual Work of Laborers
This petition had 117 supporters
Carpal tunnel syndrome is a persistently painful condition. This impairing injury occurs when the median nerve in the wrist is compressed, resulting in numbness or pain. It develops upon the overexertion of the hands, by repetitive and forceful movements.
Causes are mainly occupational. Thereby, we most kindly appeal to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), a national government agency mandating policies regarding service and labor, to take action for the welfare of the Filipino workers. We hope you do, too. Upon the honored consideration and further instruction of DOLE, employers must be required to regulate protocols against carpal tunnel syndrome.
Prevention may include:
- Rest periods: practice hand and wrist exercises for 3-5 minutes every hour
- Appropriate office furniture: good posture is a must to avert carpal tunnel syndrome
- Appropriate tools and equipment: tools with textured handles are helpful in decreasing the need for force
- Regulation of temperature: low temperatures reduce sensation in the hands and fingers
Filipino workers include those in the field of labor and even clerical occupations. Let us work hand in hand to save hands from disband.
