The Pierce-Arrow Film Arts Center presents an incredibly innovative and dynamic project that was developed with the intentions of creating an asset in Western New York that has the ability to foster an explosive economic impact on the region. With the integration and creation of the infrastructure needed to establish and sustain Buffalo as a cinematic city, the project will welcome and embrace all levels, aspects and sectors of the film, television and digital media industries.
By resurrecting the Pierce-Arrow building as a film arts center our goal is to serve as the catalyst needed in order to develop the infrastructure required to establish the film and television industry as a staple industry here in Buffalo and WNY. In doing so we expect a healthy influx of new and growing businesses, which will support job growth, education and youth retention in the region. The Pierce-Arrow Film Arts Center project will serve as a long-term sustainable effort to build the foundation needed to accommodate and integrate all aspects, sectors, and trades related to the film and television industry here under one roof with the introduction of the Pierce-Arrow Film Arts Center.
By focusing on the economic and cultural impact of introducing an industry such as this, which has an average salary roughly 32% higher than the national average, the project would have the potential to create and sustain job growth in each and every sector directly and indirectly related to the industry needs of professional film and television work being done in the area. This includes, but is not limited to camera operators, editors, writers, producers, casting directors, actors, prop & custom designers, make up & hair stylists, set builders, general contractors, electricians, caterers, laborers, transportation services, as well as local establishments such as bars, restaurants, colleges, hotels, offices, airports and theatres. It will also open influx of tourism to WNY, as has been the case in other cities and states.
Not only does the Pierce-Arrow Film Arts Center project re-purpose a historic landmark, it also brings together the infrastructure needed to support a new industry that had been missing in Buffalo by giving it a home in a beautiful building located at 1685 Elmwood Avenue, within walking distance of the Elmwood strip, the Burchfield Penney and Albright Knox art galleries. This $18 million dollar Economic Development Project has the privilege and benefit of being able to restore and re-purpose this historic landmark as a new home for Buffalo’s first Digital Film & Arts Center, which offers the project $5.5 million dollars through historical tax credits. The remaining $13 million dollars will need to be raised through state-sponsored development funds, private and public foundations, and through grants that apply to this project’s mission. By creating the infrastructure to accommodate the professional needs of the film and television industry, the Pierce-Arrow Film Arts Center will be able to provide visiting productions and TV series from anywhere in the world with all their needs in order to attract them to come to Buffalo and WNY and shoot their film here. This in turn will bring a new stream of revenues to the city while creating new and exciting opportunities for Buffalonians to make their mark in a global industry.
