ESAs, (Emotional Support Animals), are used to help people who suffer from mental illness. ESAs can help with anxiety, depression, stress, PTSD and so much more. Even though people have to be evaluated by a licensed professional, and pay a decent sum of money for a legal ESA letter, their pet is not welcomed really anywhere. In Texas, the only official right your support pet has is to live with you in an apartment or dorm, where they typically wouldn't be allowed. For instance, in New York, ESAs are allowed in apartments, dorms, college campuses/classrooms, restaurants, and even the workplace. Many people find that having their pet with them when they travel, or even just attend class, their support pet helps their mental state. While coming home to your lovable friend is comforting, it would be more efficient to allow ESAs to have the rights they deserve, to help their owner. I believe that Texas State University should allow Emotional Support Animals on the campus and in the classroom. This would help many who suffer from mental illness and the pressures that come with college life.
