EMJS French Immersion Middle Schoolers want a safe route to a neighbourhood school

0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!

Margaret Jenkins French Immersion children go on to attend Central for Middle School. The District is proposing that these children go to Lansdowne Middle School instead, starting in 2020. For most parents, Lansdowne is:

  • > 4.8km away, taking a “safe” route,
  • more than a reasonable walking distance away,
  • the third closest Middle School, and
  • a commute through three municipalities, on busy roads, past major intersections and past the busy Royal Jubilee Hospital

Also, for most parents, Lansdowne is:

  • not a neighbourhood school,
  • not a safe commute, and
  • not on good transit routes (up to a 50 minute ride with transfers).

EMJS French Immersion Middle Schoolers want a safe route to a neighbourhood school:

  • to promote independence,
  • to provide exercise,
  • to build self-esteem, and
  • to boost confidence.

We want to build vibrant and resilient communities. Neighbourhood schools help do this by:

  • promoting sustainability,
  • letting us leave our cars at home,
  • giving our children active choices, and
  • building community connections.

Why sign?

Please sign this petition to let the District know that neighbourhood schools are important for our children and our community. Help the District to prioritize finding a safe route to a nieghbourhood school for our children.
